May 2nd, 2008 by Andy in Professional

Curry’s 10th-Inning Home Run Blasts Hoppers Past Lake County

Eastlake, Ohio – Ryan Curry’s 10th-inning home run broke a 1-1 tie and gave Greensboro its second consecutive victory over Northern-Division-leading Lake County Thursday in front of 2,105 at Classic Park.

Both Greensboro and Lake County scored single runs in the fifth inning, and after Hoppers starter Cristhian Martinez tossed five innings the Greensboro bullpen came in to pitch five scoreless innings to pick up the win. It was the third straight game in which the Hoppers bullpen has not allowed a run and Greensboro’s pen has now tossed 13 consecutive scoreless innings in its current series.

Curry’s home run was his first of the season and the first in 104 at-bats with his last home run coming on Aug. 31, 2007; he finished the night 2-for-5 from the plate. Only Greensboro’s Adam Howard had more hits in the game as he went 3-for-4 from the plate with a double and a run scored.

Out of the bullpen, Battisto threw another scoreless inning to brings his consecutive innings without allowing a run total to 15.1 while closer Garrett Parcell picked up his seventh save, second most in the South Atlantic League this season.

Greensboro starter Cristhian Martinez gave up just one run and for the third consecutive night the Hoppers bullpen tossed four scoreless innings en route to a 3-1 victory over Northern-Division-leading Lake County Thursday at Classic Park.

Greensboro continues its eight-game road trip Friday with the series finale against the Lake County Captains at 7:05 p.m.

The Hoppers return home May 8 to take on the same Lake County Captains in a four-game set as part of an eight-game homestand. The homestand includes two Thirsty Thursday’s, two post-game fireworks shows, Reggy “The Purple Party Dude”, Babe’s Bark in the Park night and much more.
