GREEENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College’s women’s swimming team went 2-1 in a meet hosted by Greensboro College Saturday. The Quakers (4-8, 2-8 ODAC) downed William Peace University (133-9) and Virginia Wesleyan University (99-64), and narrowly lost to the host Pride, 88-87.

Senior Isabel Gutierrez and sophomore Carolyn O’Halloran (Summerfield, N.C./Bishop McGuinness) both won two events and were part of Guilford’s 200-yard freestyle team, which topped Greensboro and Virginia Wesleyan with a time of two minutes, 0.80 seconds. They also swam legs on the Quakers’ 200 medley relay, which turned in one of the team’s three second-place efforts with a mark of 2:23.35.

Gutierrez touched first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:22.24, beating out teammates Jordan Deaton (Gibsonville, N.C./Northeast Guilford) and Courtney Packer, who were third and fourth, respectively. Gutierrez also won the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:55.73.

O’Halloran captured the 50 freestyle in 27.35 seconds, over five seconds faster than the second-place finisher. She turned around one event later and outdistanced the seven-swimmer field in the 100 free with a time of 1:01.00.

Guilford’s Audrey Helfenbein took second in both backstroke events and was also part of the Quakers’ two relays. She was second in the 100 back with a time of 1:21.10 and second in the 200 back in 2:52.12.

Coach Ashley Cox’s team swims at Greensboro again this Friday night, along with ODAC-rival Sweet Briar College at 6:00 p.m.
