Women’s College Basketball – Guilford 80, Salem 65

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Sophomore Morgan King notched a team-high double-double (17 points and 13 rebounds) in Guilford College’s 80-65 non-conference basketball win over visiting Salem College Wednesday evening.
King and teammate Jazlyn Gibbs (16 points) led the Quakers (4-2) in double-figure scoring and helped Guilford to its fourth straight victory. Gibbs also contributed four rebounds and two of the Quakers 11 steals holding the Spirits (1-3) to 33.9 percent field-goal shooting.
Guilford jumped out to an early 17-4 advantage before Salem closed the lead to 19-13 with 12 minutes remaining in the half. However the Quakers outscored the Spirits by 10 to close the first period with a 45-29 lead. The lead would balloon to as much as 24 in the second half before a late rally by the Spirits cut the deficit to 10 points with just under two minutes remaining in the game added another trifecta during the run.
Salem’s Shamaz Denerson led all scorers with 20 points. Teammate Amber Miller contributed 12 points and six rebounds in the losing effort.
The Quakers host ODAC-rival Roanoke College Tuesday (12/6) in a 7:00 p.m. game.
