College Volleyball Final – Lynchburg 3, Guilford 0 (ODAC Tournament quarterfinal)

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Elena Kritter had a match-high 13 kills and hit .346 in third-seeded Lynchburg College’s 25-17, 25-18, 25-22 victory over number-six Guilford College in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament quarterfinal Wednesday.

The Hornets (21-9) advance to play second-seeded Randolph-Macon College, which defeated Emory & Henry Wednesday in another quarterfinal. The loss snapped Guilford’s five-match winning streak and ends its season with a 12-15 record.

Lynchburg raced to a 7-0 lead in the first set and never allowed the Quakers closer than four points in the 25-17 first-set win. Rebecca Loftis put away four of her five kills on the night and helped the Hornets hit a blistering .452 as a team in the opening set.

The second set was tied at 16-16 before Lynchburg reeled off eight straight points, thanks in part to Guilford’s hitting. The Quakers’ Mary Moody had four of her team-high eight kills in the second set, but Guilford could not overcome eight attack errors and four service errors in the set.

Guilford’s Kaci Chriscoe served up a couple aces during a 7-2 run that opened a 15-10 Quakers’ lead, but Lynchburg battled back and tied the set at 20-20. The contest was tied at 22-22 before the Hornets ended the match with three straight kills. Kritter had seven of her 13 kills in the third set and hit .417.

Lynchburg’s Moriah Sedlak had seven kills on .545 hitting and teammate Rachel Huffman added five kills and four blocks. Rachel Turk notched a double-double with 17 kills and 17 assists, plus three kills. Brooke Moughon also had 17 asissts for the Hornets.

Malikah French hit .636 with seven kills and two service aces for the Quakers. Taylor Whitley added 19 assists and Chriscoe picked up a team-high 13 digs.
