CNU over Greensboro College baseball Sunday at WMS

Greensboro, N.C. — Christopher Newport defeated Greensboro College, 14-8, at War Memorial Stadium on Sunday. GC’s Ryan Summerford (Southern Pines, NC/Pinecrest High School) went 3-3 with a walk, one run and three RBI to lead Pride batters.
GC dropped to 4-9 and 0-2 in USA South games. CNU improved to 8-1 and 2-0.
Josh Powell and Michael Cobb (Union, NC/Union County High School) both knocked home runs for The Pride. Greensboro starter Murray Smith (Williston, SC/Williston-Elko High School) dropped to 0-2 on the season. He allowed eight runs, but six were unearned in the top of the fourth inning.
Connor Madden went 2-4 with a double, triple and six RBI to lead the Captains. Starting pitcher Greg Goldsmith got the win for CNU.
GC plays at Emory & Henry on Tuesday.
