Hard-hitting Homecoming for Greensboro College as Maryville mashes Pride in second half

Posted By on October 31, 2010

This one hit home hard for Dr./Coach Hunt, as the Homecoming crowd left in a hurry on Saturday, as Greensboro College lost to Maryville……

Greensboro, N.C. — Maryville College has a big second half en route to a 40-6 win over Greensboro College. Dustin Williams tossed three second-half touchdown passes to lead the Scots.

GC dropped to 1-7 and 0-5 in USA South play. Maryville is now 3-5, 2-3.

The first half was a defensive battle. The Scots got field goals of 36, and 39 yards from Andrew Noboa. Late in the second quarter, an MC turnover set up GC’s score.

The Pride’s Cody McCray (Greensboro, NC /Ragsdale) intercepted Williams, (17-32, 158 yards, 3TD, INT) and returned the ball 16 yards to the Maryville 26-yard line.

Four plays later, Pride quarterback Kall Daniel (Brookville, FL/Hernando) connected with Antwan Thorpe (Oxford, NC/Webb) on a 7-yard TD strike. The PAT was missed, and the score remained 6-6 at the half.

That was one of the few highlights for GC’s homecoming crowd. It was all Maryville in the second half. The Scots had 11 first downs in the final 2 quarters, versus just one for The Pride.

Williams connected twice with Wesley Idlette on third quarter touchdowns. The Scots held a 19-6 advantage after 3 periods. The visitors added 2 rushing, and one passing score in the final 15 minutes for the rest of the scoring.

Brian Green (Stuart, FL/Martin County) had a game high 12 tackles to lead the GC defense.

How did Dr. Hunt get the job at GC? Does he have any coaching experience? Why didn’t Coach Young, the defensive coordinator there, get the job? What was the point of hiring Coach Teague from Reidsville if Cocah Hunt wouldn’t let him run the offense? I understand he took over calling plays after the second game of the year this year, with a first year OC that puts in about 16 hours of work a day…. Isn’t that why Head Coaches hire offensive coordinators?

I’ve been saying for weeks now that the only person that can put GC on the map is Tim Lewis. I do agree with Alumn that Bill Young could get it done as well. Tim knows that program inside and out and gets respect from the players. Nothing aganist coach Hunt but his hiring was out of left field. Get Tim Lewis!!!

  3. Concened Alumn says:

Tim Lewis the former running back and RB Coach from GC?

  4. Jason Voorhees says:

That’s right Alumn, the former player and coach Tim Lewis. If GC was smart they would be on the phone right now trying to track him down. I believe he works at The Rush fitness complex in Burlington, last I heard.

  5. Concerned Alumn says:

He was at the game last Saturday. I played there when he coached there and for him to be even considered over Coach Young is a joke.
