Guilford’s football team fell at 18th-ranked Hampden-Sydney College
Saturday, 49-20. The Quakers’ Justin Parker made nine catches for 109 yards
and three touchdowns. Chris Jessup led the defense with eight tackles, three
for loss.
The Quakers’ best men’s soccer season since 2003 ended Saturday in the Old
Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinals with a 4-2 loss at
Randolph. Guilford’s Richard Page and Jordan Alexander scored goals.
Guilford’s Derick Kosgei won the Old Dominion Athletic Conference
championship Saturday by completing the eight-kilometer course in 25:41.
Kosgei was named the league’s runner of the year and joined teammate Chad
Norton and First Team All-ODAC honorees. David Cason, who placed 14th in the
race, earned Second Team All-ODAC recognition. The Quakers placed a
school-record second out of eight as a team.
The Quakers’ women’s cross country team finished sixth among seven scoring
squads at the ODAC Championships. Guilford’s Taylor Stokes had the Quakers’
best finish with a 23rd-place time of 25:48 over the six-kilometer course.
Teammate Anne Mogavero was 29th.
Guilford’s women’s soccer team lost at Lynchburg College, 9-0, Saturday in
an Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinal. The Quakers’
Kat Adams and Amy Baker combined to make nine saves in goal.
The Quakers’ volleyball team downed Randolph, 3-0, Friday to finish the Old
Dominion Athletic Conference with a 5-5 record. Guilford’s Traci Teague led
the Quakers with 11 kills on .668 hitting. The team’s 15 wins are its most
since 1995.
Guilford’s men’s basketball team was picked fifth in the preseason Old
Dominion Athletic Conference Coaches’ Poll released Thursday. Eastern
Mennonite and Randolph-Macon were the top two teams in the poll.
