Rally comes up short for Greensboro College women at Ferrum

Ferrum, Va. — Nikki Wilborn (Graham NC/Graham) had a game-high 26 points and Bianca Richburg (Hillsborough/Orange High School) scored 19 and had 18 rebounds, but Greensboro College lost at Ferrum College, 72-61, on Monday night.

FC led 35-24 at the break. The Panthers went on a 6-0 to start the second half and had its biggest lead of the game, 40-25, with 16:59 left in the game.

The Pride rallied, however. Wilborn connected on a three-pointer that made the score 60-57 with 4:43 on the clock. The Panthers outscored GC 12-4 the remainder of the contest.

Wilborn was 11-27 from the field and Richburg was 8-19. Led Richburg’s recounding (she had 6 offensive caroms), The Pride won the battle of the boards 49-39.

Greensboro shot 27-percent (25-75) to Ferrum’s 41-percent (26-51). GC, which dropped its fifth straight game, is now 6-13 and 4-10 in the USA South. Ferrum improved to 15-5, 9-4.

Tonya Wright led four Ferrum players in double digits with 21 points.

The Pride returns to action on Wednesday night at NC Wesleyan.
