Are the games being played tonight or postponed because of weather?

  2. ol' bawl coach says:

will the whirlies ever win a game with that new “defensive genius as the head coach”?

  3. Andy says:

Last we heard, all games were still on tonight. We’ll watch for updates throughout the afternoon……

With Grimsley brining on Barry Stewart to help in the consulting area it should help the team overall. Coach Stewart was the head man at Mount Tabor and he was the Grimsley head coach when the Whirlies beat Page in the regular season for the first time in many, many years back in 1999.

The fans were partying like it was 1999 back in those days and they will be celebrating again when the Whirlies get their first win in 2009….

  4. BM says:

Why does Bishop McGuinnes never get mentioned? They are 3-0 and have not been scored on yet this year!!

  5. onewhoknows says:

Nice jab at the Grimsley HC, I think that the defense has only given up 17 points and 276 yards the past two games, good luck to all the teams tonight

  6. Andy says:

We had this up on the site Tuesday to recognize Bishop in our All-area Checklist:
    10) Jarod Pluciniczak(Bishop McGuinness) 110 yards rushing and 3TD’s for JP and if you can spell Pluciniczak without looking, it means early admission to the Don Osborne Kicking Academy in Thomasville and we think Kevin Faxon, the Bishop kicker, has been going over there already. Faxon was 7-7 in PAT’s last Friday night…….
    Plu-sa-knee-zach??????(Are we in?)

Bishop tonight versus South Stokes….South Stokes(0-3) and the Sauras have been out-scored so far 149-16 by their opponents….

    Bishop already this year:
    42-0 over Union Academy
    41-0 over Highland Tech
    49-0 over South Davidson

Let’s watch and see how Bishop McGuinness(3-0) does when they face East Surry and Mt. Airy…..Good luck as always to Villains!

  8. BleedBlue&White says:

I thought Grimsley beat Page for the first time in many years when Coach Smouse was the HC.I rember Shawn Brown diving over his offensive line for a Whirlie TD boy was he something special. I think Fulton Meecham was QB or was it Greg Frankiln not sure.Until Grimsley put the best on the field and stop with the everybody play rule ( Rec Ball )they will take a L.They will beat NW tonite without a doubt.

  9. Andy says:

The win by Coach Smouse and Grimsley was with Greg Franklin at QB, Shawn Brown at RB and Bernard Farrington at WR and it came in the playoffs and I believe it ended on a field goal by Kirk McGuinn in OT to give Grimsley the win 10-7 and the Whirlies advanced on to the 4-A semifinals in the playoffs.

The regular season win with Coach Stewart had Ronald Crawford as the RB and featured Ron Harris as one of the wideouts and not sure who was the QB, but Crawford was a very tough runner and he was the man that brought home the bacon and brought out the GPD bike patrol on to the field to clear the huge crowd and sea of fans on that big night……

Anybody has any more details, fill them in. I believe the playoff win came in 1988 and the regular season win in 1999. Joe Franks would know for sure on all accounts.

  10. keith says:

you are correct Andy from a grimsley alumni is was a huge night of partying at UNCW when it was told to me that we had beaten page, because in 1986 it was 39-0 page and my senior year it was drum roll please 49-0 page then while a freshman partying we hear that grimsley beats page in the playoffs. I will never forget it because I wanted to come back home sooooo bad but couldn’t.

Kirk Mcguinn was reminded about that day at last years grimsley page golf tournament, great memories for him.
