GREENSBORO, N.C. (10-15-08) – Sophomore Jackie D’Orsaneo (Bowie, Md./Bowie (Anne Arundel C.C.)) scored a career-high eight points with three goals and two assists in Guilford College’s 6-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) soccer victory over visiting Randolph College Wednesday. The Quakers’ fourth win in five matches improved their record to 6-8 overall, 4-2 ODAC. Randolph slips to 5-10 (1-6 ODAC).
Senior Lauren Baber (Greensboro, N.C./Athens Drive (Louisburg)) opened the scoring in the 14th minute with the first of two goals. D’Orsaneo notched an assist on the play. The Wildcats hung tough for the remainder of the period and trailed by only a goal after the first half.
D’Orsaneo opened the second-half scoring with an unassisted tally in the 48th minute. Her goal in the 83rd minute touched off a four-goal spurt over the next six minutes as the undermanned Wildcats wilted down the stretch on this unseasonably warm afternoon.
The Quakers outshot the Yellow Jackets, 42-5, but Wildcats’ netminder Victoria Johnson kept her team in the match until the end with 24 saves. Senior Amber Stapler (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie (Anne Arundel C.C)) went the distance in goal for the Quakers and made three saves for the shutout.
Guilford returns to ODAC action Friday at Sweet Briar College. Randolph hosts Randolph-Macon Saturday (10/18) at 1:00 p.m.
