I first heard of Mary Garber when I worked at Winston-Salem State University. I was hanging around Big House Gaines office talking about the campus radio station’s remote feeds. Mary called Big House about something and he sat and chatted with her for what at the time seemed forever. After the call, Big House told me about Mary Garber. I was immediately impressed. Here was a legend (Big House Gaines) talking about another legend (Mary Garber).
Mary died this past weekend. The News & Record has the story. Ed Hardin has another story.
I never had the opportunity to work with or even meet Mary Garber; but I had heard stories. I hope to keep hearing stories about her.
