ACC Football Kick-Off at the Coliseum today…..(Plus the report to the People)

Posted By on July 17, 2008

The Piedmont Triad Sports Club will present their ACC Football Kick-Off at the Greensboro Coliseum today beginning at Noon. The event will take place in the Atrium.

Representing Virginia Tech will be the Voice of the Hokies Bill Roth.
Representing the UNC Tarheels will be Jones Angell also with the UNC broadcast team.
Representing Wake Forest will be Defensive Coach Ray McCartney.
Representing NC State will be Andy McCollum also Defensive Coach.
and Representing Appalachian State is David Jackson, Voice of the Mountaineers.

*****David Jackson the son of former NEWS 2 weatherman Randy Jackson,(now with 101.1 WZTK) and David a graduate of Northeast Guilford High School and also a former Palomino baseball player in the local league run by the late Mr. Bob Doss.*****

+++++Appalachian replaces Duke who decided to be a No Show back in the beginning when the table was set to include the BIG FOUR but when Duke said it was a No Go, then App and Virginia Tech were asked to join in on the fun and both schools quickly obliged.+++++

@@@@@Duke came with the last-minute push and the Blue Devils sent assistant coach Kirk Roper to speak to group gathered together today at the Greensboro Coliseum. All of speakers did a fine job with Ray McCartney of Wake taking the podium first, followed by Coach Roper from Duke, then Jones Angell from UNC, then David Jackson of Appalachian, Bill Roth from VA Tech, and finally Andy McCollum out of N.C. State.

It was nice to see and speak with David Jackson again and he invited GREENSBOROSports.com up to see a game at the ROCK in Boone this season and we might have to get 20-25 tickets and give some away at the web site. I have always been a big N.C. State fan but in my humble opinion Coach Andy McCollum stole the show and he was the most entertaining speaker of the afternoon. Coach McCollum got lost at the Coliseum, and he had some difficulty finding the room, which was supposed to be the Atrium, but it turned out to be the Blue Room.

Coach McCollum was the last man take the microphone but he put together quite a speech filled with a lot of kicking butt talk,(he said unfortunately it was usually his butt getting kicked but soon to be the other guys) and bunch of good ‘ole boy type talk that was sort of in the style of a Jeff Foxworthy production.

Steve Warren of Steak n Shake, and also a former N.C. State All-American lineman, was responsible for bringing McCollum to the Coliseum and Mr. Warren could probably take McCollum on the road for a one-man comdey show, McCollum is that much of an entertainer. I’m sure he would tear the place up, down in the Southeastern Conference states.

Jones Angell from the University of North Carolina at Chapel-Hill told everyone that his wife is expecting their first child and to be on the look-out for a little angel sometime in August and he said the Heels were nowhere near the caliber of Wake Forest right now but that TJ Yates would start at QB and that Mike Paulus and Cam Sexton are making fast progress.@@@@@

$$$$$We will have pictures from the event up tomorrow at GREENSBOROSports.com.$$$$$
