State-wide College football Top Ten

Posted By on October 31, 2007

We have some changes this week with Wake Forest, Elon, and NC State playing hot ball, Guilford and Greensboro College hitting the skids and Appalachian barely escaping a very rough town, Greenville, S.C., with victory over Furman.

Here’s what the faithful have been waiting for:
#1)Wake Forest(6-2) LW1-destroyed North Carolina 37-10 and the Demon Deacons team-speed is blowing everyone away.

#2)Elon(6-2) LW2-the Phoenix are (4-1) SoCon and tied with Wofford for first place but they beat Wofford and EU has the advantage over the Terriers. Freshman QB Scott Riddle led the boys again last week in their 38-28 victory over Chattanooga.

#3)Appalachian State(6-2)LW5-Armanti Edwards led the Mountaineers past Furman 34-27 and the Neers are hanging in there hoping that Elon or Wofford slips up.

#4)TIE Winston-Salem State(5-3) LW4 and NC Central(5-3) LW3-WSSU came through with a huge 20-19 over MEAC rival Hampton and Central fell down the Mountain after the Eagles 50-14 loss to the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers.

#6)TIE East Carolina(5-4) LW6 and N.C. State(3-5) LW10-ECU blasted Alabama-Birmingham 41-6 while the Wolfpack is back on track beating a respected UVA squad 29-24 behind a career-day from QB Daniel Evans. State has Miami on the road this week and they may be ready to make a State-ment.

#8)Catawba(8-1) LW7-the Indians are actually playing much better than Cleveland this season and with a 45-20 drubbing of Wingate, Catawba still has the best record in the Carolinas. Eat your heart out Spurrier and don’t choke on the Orange Juice.

#9)Davidson(5-3) LW8-the ‘Cats went Wild with a 44-32 victory over Butler and Wayne Butler said he is getting tired of getting beat up on but he’ll take the weight loss any day of the week.

#10)TIE UNC-Pembroke(4-4) LW9 and Guilford(4-4)LW9-the Braves are making Atlanta look sick and the Pembroke Braves just keep on winning in their first football season since the 50′s and they did it again with a large 43-22 win against Faulkner and William said he didn’t feel a thing. Guilford is on Top Ten life-support after the Quakers 34-16 loss to Randolph-Macon and we had to try and keep the Quakers breathing because we wanted so badly to have a local team in the poll but the chest is getting real tight out off of West Friendly Avenue at New Garden Road.

Falling out of this week’s poll:Greensboro College(2-6) LW10 and UNC Chapel-Hill(2-6) LW10-the Pride falleth to Ferrum 21-7 and the Heels left the Triad walking after a 37-10 loss to Wake.
*****Looking for a place to put them:UNCG, N.C. A&T, and GTCC*****
